Sustainability goes beyond recycling. It means meeting our needs within our means—financially and environmentally—while keeping future generations in mind. A vibrant Halfmoon Bay is a place where people from all walks of life can afford to live and thrive, and where nature is valued and respected. I am committed to applying a sustainability lens to decisions throughout the Budget process and beyond.

Environmental stewardship means ensuring that growth benefits our community without compromising ecosystem health or water security. It is understanding which places and natural systems need particular care, and finding balanced approaches to development through sound planning, thoughtful decision-making and ongoing engagement with residents and developers.

Community is that wonderful sense of belonging, of being valued, connected and cared for. Strong communities do not happen by accident. They are built by committed volunteers, by sound planning that creates space for community hubs, and by social infrastructure such as trails, parks, libraries, ice rinks and community halls that bring people together and support our well-being. This value is at the core of who I am, and I will continue to make decisions that support healthy, vibrant neighbourhoods for generations to come.

Collaboration is more important than ever as we face pressures such as global instability, extreme weather events and ageing infrastructure. Local governments, community partners and First Nations are stronger when we work together, and collaboration can help us respond to challenges and make positive change more effectively. Building relationships and trust is at the foundation of this work, and I am committed to strengthening those relationships and building a more united and resilient Sunshine Coast.
